Work on Australian TV includes Crawfords police dramas and the ABC, and in 1972 became popular bitch figure in soap 'Number 96'. With the 'Claudia' theatrical company which is to tour New Zealand, is Miss Bettina Welch, a New Zealand girl who has been successful in theatrical circles in Australia. The young actress played her first leading role in 'Susan and God' in Melbourne, when Miss Marjorie Gordon, whom she was understudying, became ill. Since then she has starred in other plays. (Auckland Star 4 April 1944, page 5) HAMILTON GIRL SUCCEEDS APPEARING IN 'CLAUDIA' Miss Bettina Welch, who left Hamilton four years' ago to try her luck on the Australian stage, returned to New Zealand by air recently and is appearing in the title role in the New Zealand tour of 'Claudia.' Miss Welch, within a few weeks of her arrival in Sydney, won an elocution championship and radio test, and was engaged immediately for the recording' of plays.
