Description “Impulse and behaviours were two aspects which dominated the one and a half hour show. Sounds or words, though spoken in different languages, did not function as a means of communication because they could not be understood. They were used as a back up to impulses, movements and acting. So the show and the flow of the story was mainly dominated by the art of acting and the skill of the performers. The (actors) paid great attention to those movements and the symbols they performed were not repeated and duplicated….
The movements symbolise various life activities and can be understood without narration because all the symbols relate to our everyday life. Even though the movements occur in “another world” the reference is to understand activities in the present. That is why it is easy to say that marbles, and other games and toys, symbolise freedom or some release from boredom.
On the other hand, if the meaning is related to the flow of the story (movements) which later develops, the games are not “just” games. Ironing and modelling are not just different jobs. And dancing at the end of the show does not “just “ mean that the play ends happily.
The story, which carries no sense of time, symbolises many factual happenings. It becomes natural to see the movements of the “world of death” and then see everyday life….” Halal, Padang. See separate workshop entry.
