AusStage Citation Guide

AusStage encourages students, researchers and authors to cite AusStage in accordance with scholarly conventions. Citation enables readers to identify AusStage as a source of information. It also enables AusStage to follow how the dataset is used in research.

If you have used the resources of AusStage, we remind you to acknowledge AusStage’s copyright as you would any other secondary source. If you download this data to create your own visualisations or graphics we request that you clearly note that the data has been harvested from AusStage. For traditional publications, a sample acknowledgement is:

Sample citations are provided in three reference styles, with some adjustment to incorporate information specific to AusStage. These samples demonstrate principles which may be adapted for other citation styles:

 

General citation

A general citation for the entire AusStage database is expected. For example:

 

Citing search results

Citing search results is not advised because the database is updated continually.

 

Citing individual records

Citing individual records from AusStage may also be appropriate. There are seven types of records in AusStage, each with their own citation style, as set out below:

Events

An Event is a distinct happening defined by title, date/s and venue; typically, a performance or series of performances at a venue. For example:

Resources

A Resource is a text, image, object, recording or the like which relates to an Event, or to a Contributor, Organisation or Venue, or to a Work, Genre, Content Indicator or other Resource. Some resources exist as individual items stored in collections (eg programs, photographs, posters). Other resources exist in multiple copies in libraries (eg books, journals, articles). For example:
