Description Bell Shakespeare Company. "A striking mix of the romantic and the realistic, of the supernatural and the terrestrial, some have called The Winter's Tale a romantic tragic-comedy. As The Winter's Tale opens, Leontes, King of Sicilia, is possessed of an irremovable conviction that his wife Hermione has committed adultery with his closest friend, the visiting King Polixenes of Bohemia. What is evident to everyone else, is that the King's 'diseased opinions' are completely without foundation. Leontes, however, is in the grip of an obsessive jealousy which is terrifying in its intensity".
