Description |
Producer's note: "Housemaster is not a farcial comedy; its underlying theme is quite serious, but there is a wealth of unconscious humour in every character and situation. You may in fact, find yourself laughing at another youthful escapade in which you too have played a part. However long ago that might be, we hope our play will make it seem only yesterday. So come with us to "Marbledown" - not an aristocratic school, or a conspicious school, but a good school. It is mid-term in May and we find ourselves in "the Make's" study in the Red House. Here we shall remain for the duration of our play. The play depicts the conflict between a wise housemaster and a puritanical younger headmaster at an English public school, with the action complicated by the unexpected incursion of two women and two girls who have to be accommodated in the otherwise all-male establishment |
