Mrs Alving is preparing for the opening of an orphanage in memory of her late husband. Her son's return
to the family home brings with it echoes of the past she is desperate to forget. Slowly, mercilessly, inexorably, Ibsen strips bare the secrets and lies of an isolated country town as the play dramatises one woman?s battle with the conservative conventions of bourgeois society, where an individual's right to free thought is seen as anarchic and dangerous. |
