Description Arena Theatre Company is one of Australia’s leading theatre companies for young audiences, with an international reputation for creating inspiring, provocative and adrenaline pumping performances.

In an exciting co-production, Arena and Contact Theatre present an exhilarating new work, SKID 180. Set in the underworld of Manchester’s BMX scene, SKID 180 is high energy multimedia theatre that expertly fuses video art, sound, poetry and live BMX action.

Mc Stone, a young man and ward of the state, decides to make a break from the authorities and establish life on the Manchester streets where he meets a gang of BMX riders and is exposed to a subculture of revolutionary wheels. In a quest to shed light on Mc Stone's past, the gang breaks into the City of Paper, a mythical government building where all official records are kept. But the gang's motives prove more complex than is first revealed, triggering a startling chain of events that leave Mc Stone reeling.

SKID 180 is an international collaboration bringing together artists from Melbourne and Manchester, young people and BMX riders. The striking set design is constructed of ramps and multiple scrims against processed BMX footage and a stunningly recapitulated view of Manchester and Melbourne. A contemporary urban fairytale, SKID 180 is a powerful work that celebrates new voices for the theatre in every aspect of its creation.

PRODUCED BY ARENA THEATRE COMPANY AND CONTACT THEATRE, MANCHESTER. THIS PROJECT WAS DEVELOPED WITH THE SUPPORT OF ARTS VICTORIA, WOODSIDE ENERGY LTD, THE BRITISH COUNCIL AND CITY OF MELBOURNE.
