This is an opera of dreams and longing, of the vastness of the sea and the power of love and compassion.
The Dutchman, condemned to roam the seas forever in search of a love that can save him from oblivion, is the haunted figure around whom Wagner's unforgettable music revolves. This is an opera of dreams and longing, of the vastness of the sea and the power of love and compassion. When after an eternity, the Dutchman finds Senta, he warns her of the terrible consequences she must face if she vows to be with him forever. |
