Description Reviewer's Opinion (Australian and New Zealand Theatre Record): "Nikki Heywood is addressing human lifestyles through an allegory that unfolds in movement and sound and might be deemed insect like - or at the very least non-human."
From Performance Space database: "A monstrously engorged female body forms the central motif and starting point for this performance. All gestures and sounds relate to her. She is the Alpha and Omega, the queen, the all consuming orifice who dominates her all- singing, all-dancing chorus of skinny men, reminiscent of the frenzy of an insect hive."

"The termite queen expands up to 600 times her original size and has to be continually moved by her court to ever increasing chambers. The exits are too small for her to use......
How the female body occupies space...what is allowed, what is taboo? We may fear being devoured by her expanse or we may long to be reabsorbed into her, as into the earth."

"The soundscape in Creatures Ourselves has been created solely from focused vocal improvisations by the performers. These improvisations were led by Tony Backhouse and recorded, electronically treated and transformed by Garry Bradbury. The sounds heard during the show are a combination of these pre-recorded compositions and live manipulations of the recordings."
