| Description |
Siti Rubiyah is the first play by feminist horror filmmaker Katrina Irawati Graham, a contemporary Indonesian-Australian work inspired in part by Mochtar Lubis’s classic 1975 novel Harimau! Harimau! (Tiger!). In Lubis’s original work, the vulnerable young Siti Rubiyah is abandoned to her fate at the hands of powerful shaman Wak Hitam. Graham’s re-imagining places the character Siti Rubiyah at the centre of an evocative story set deep in a Sumatran jungle, where magic surrealism and horror elements weave a mythical parallel world. |
