| Description |
This is the tale of an illiterate Irish girl - herself only partially - sighted, who wrought a miracle in the life of a grievously afflicted child. William Gibson's dramatisation of the childhood of Helen Keller presents her at the age of 7 - blind, deaf, mute, a tormented little animal grunting and stumbling in a blank, incomprehensible void. After years of professional care had failed, her parents in Alabama brought in a young woman - Anni Sullivan - slum bred, who undertook to break through the numb barrier surrounding Helen. At this point Gibson's play commences. |
