Description "Based on the story of Pentheus, King of Thebes, who denies the god Dionysus and is then torn limb from limb by the 'dancing women', the god's followers. (Euripides). John Bowen presents the myth as a tragic story, in which a good man, performing good acts, is destroyed by his denial, both of himself and others, of what is instinctive, irrational and destructive".
