Description The story is set on a little beach inhabited by a brown booby bird, a crab, and a turtle who comes to lay her eggs. A boy called Karah climbs down the cliff, discovers the beach and claims it for his own, making his mark with writing and footprints in the sand.
Karah watches the turtle laying her eggs and appoints himself as their guardian when the turtle returns to the sea.
When the booby bird becomes entangled in some discarded fishing net, Karah enlists the help of his friend Roy, swearing her to secrecy about the beach. Roy, in turn, brings her friend, Cass, to the beach.
