| Description |
"Sir Harry Blakerswood, Conservative MP, is killed in a fox-hunting accident and his death gives rise to a by-election. Nigel Barton is persuaded to stand as the Labour candidate in spite of having been defeated heavily at the earlier General Election. Labour Party agent, Jack Hay, masterminds Nigel's campaign, attempting to compensate for Nigel's idealism, conviction and political passion. The play closes before Nigel's inevitable electoral defeat is revealed. His moral defeat and disillusionment is fully apparent, however". From www.yorksj.ac.uk/potter/vvvnb.htm |
