Further Information Albert Hall was opened by the Prime Minister, Mr Bruce on 10 March 1928. Albert Hall cost about £25,000 to construct and provided the first meeting place at the Capital. Mr Bruce said, "like everything else here (laughter) if this is to be only temporary, it is far too good, but it is not quite good enough for a permanent place in the centre of the Capital of Australia. I am certain, however, that it will be a permanent niche in the life of the people of this city." It can be noted that the stage curtains caught fire before the formalities started.
