"This is a definite step toward making Canberra the centre of Australian art and literature, and of everything that will uplift the Australian people: a centre from which will radiate all those aspirations that are truly national," said the Prime Minister (Mr Bruce) last night in formally opening a new assembly hall erected near the Hotel Canberra by the Federal Capital Commission at a cost of about £25,000. The hall provides the first public meeting place built at the Capital. The opening ceremony was marked by a visit from a party from the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music.
