Description Our Country's Good is based on the novel The Playmaker by Thomas Keneally, and written by Timberlake Wertenbaker. The story is of Australia's first dramatic performance, by convicts, of George Farquhar's The Recruiting Officer on 4th June 1788.

Further Information Production from New Zealand. Like the Royal Court Theatre in London, both plays were staged alternately and possibly together during this performance season. Both plays have the same cast and producers. Our Country's Good was first staged on the 8th July, whereas The Recruiting Officer was first staged on the 1st July. Musicians not indexed.
