"Set at the end of the 18th century...the characters may be bewigged and gowned in the manner of the 18th century but their minds are burdened with a modern sense of the ironies of a world where cruelty and injustice continue to exist... the narrative line follows the liberation of Mary Traverse from the drawing room of her comfortable mercantile class home on to the streets and into the political dens of London." |
