| Description |
The justly famous Lyon Opera Ballet brings a striking, visionary interpretation of this classic ballet. Choreographer Angelin Preljocaj and cult comic-strip artist Enki Bilal have created a disquieting Verona, where the ill-starred lovers come from very different backgrounds: Juliet from the ruling establishment, Romeo from the underclass. Their passion is a means of liberation in an oppressive, tightly controlled society. Danced superbly to Prokofiev's exciting score, this Romeo and Juliet has echoes of Blade Runner and Orwell's 1984. From New York to Tokyo it has been hailed as a sensational dance event. |
