Dating back to the 15th Century, Kyogen is classical Japanese farce. Stylised, witty and wonderfully expressive, it becomes a perfect vehicle for exploring one of the Bard's most amusing characters. Shakespeare's Falstaff was a rotund rebel, constantly shirking the obligations of his station and falling foul of life in his fondness for the bottle. Yet he possessed a certain dignity and a deep sense of honour.
