| Description |
Pull up a bar stool, grab a dram and settle in for an evening of devilishly good theatre, live music and unusual comings and goings. This Festival, the National Theatre of Scotland is taking theatre to a place Kiwis know and love - the pub. One wintry morning Prudencia Hart, an ivory-tower academic, stops in at a folk pub on her way home from a conference in Kelso, a town in the Scottish Borders. As she props up the bar, a blizzard sets in. Little does Ms Hart know who or what awaits her... Inspired by Robert Burns and the "Border Ballads", the show is delivered via a romp of rhyming couplets, devilish encounters, lyrical ghost stories and wild karaoke with live musicians. Prudencia's dream-like journey of self-discovery unfolds in and around the whisky drinking audience. Tempted by the Devil, what does Prudencia do? With a poetic and seductive text by David Greig, The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart is the lock-in to end all lock-ins - a cautionary tale for a cold winter's night. |
