Description Whispers In The Heart explores the images, ideology
and connections between the human sciences, colonisation and white Australian notions of Aboriginality. Set in the early years of white settlement, it enfolds within its narrative 200 years of civilised madness and savagery. Structured like a gothic horror story, it is both shockingly comic and painfully tragic. It follows the journey of Zarah, a young and zealous British scientist who makes the perilous voyage to Australia soon after it has been established as a penal colony.
