Description Moliere wrote "Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme" in 1670. The central figure is Monsieur Jourdain, a rich merchant with a hankering for high society. To attain this end he made a gallant attempt to acquire the "right " manners and accent and to cultivate the "best' people.
