|Description||The warrior Orlando, torn between his love for Angelica and his glorious career, rages against his insanity and jealousy when he discovers her infidelity. Ariosto's epic medieval tale Orlando Furioso is the source material for this and two other works by Handel, Alcina and Ariodante.
Orlando's score, which includes opera's first five-eight bars, is today as strange, passionate and provocative as it was at its premiere in London in 1733. In 1999 it will be performed by a cast of fine Australian singer actors and a baroque ensemble under the direction of Handel specialist Graham Abbott.
