Scene: Sitting room in the Borden's house, Fall River, Mass. Period: 4th August, 1893. Afternoon. Story of the play: On 4th August 1892, one of America's most famous murders was committed. Mr and Mrs Borden were brutally battered to death with an axe. Miss Lizzie Borden, one of the two old-maid daughters, was arrested and sent for trial. Her sister Emma stood by her loyally, and when Lizzie was acquitted the two sisters returned home. Then one day Miss Emma left. She never came back. The sisters never saw each other again.
