Description |
The character of Pistol, who appears in Shakespeare?s Henry IV parts I and II, and Henry V, reminisces at the Boar?s Head tavern seven years after the battle of Agincourt. Pistol himself is a liar, petty thief and a coward, but fought on the field of Agincourt. The script is a powerful piece of theatre built on solid literary foundations and, as it is written in modern English, it is accessible even without prior familiarity with Shakespeare texts. The play is both very moving and comic, and raises questions for the audience about the justifi cation of war; and the aftermath and consequences |
