| Description |
The story is that of an Hungarian musician of last century who has the traditional 'musical temperament,' prone in emergency to extremes of emotion. His favourite pupil, Richard Dahl, wins a Continental Scholarship, but becomes enamoured of 'modern' Russian music, not to mention Nina Salkind, an exponent of the cult. He leaves Nicolai's daughter Ilona to bear his son and bring him up alone. In turn the old musician's hopes are centred in Dick, the son. Father and son meet, but do not at first know one another's identity, and Richard's charm nearly, but not quite, wins back Ilona after 20 years, just as she has promised to marry an old and constant admirer, Arthur Every. |
