Description The play renders the depravity of pre-revolution France through the activities of two dazzling and witty aristocats, the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Valmont. Together, for reasons of petty revenge and to add to the glory of their own reputations, they plot and mercilessly carry out the seduction of a convent girl and of poor Madame de Tourvel, known for her charity and piousness.
