| Description |
Set during the Karori gold rush in the 1860s. 'We're weaving together local history and the central theme of the play, specifically attitudes towards women and marriage,' Coats says. 'An arranged marriage was not unusual at this time and women were scarce in the new-found land. Most New Zealand women's lives were short and hard then, but this just made them more forthright and determined to work alongside their men'. |
