Hare uses the play as an entertaining way to air the contemporary debate between free-market morals and collective responsibility. It tells of a schoolteacher living in a chilly flat in London whose wealthy former lover visits to see if she will resume their affair. Now that the lover's wife is dead, they are free to be together. But are they? Is the profound difference in their views of life and politics too deep for them to cross? |
