Description "ALIUS ALIUD is an exhibition of artworks by four Sydney-based artists. The title of the exhibition refers to the theme of the DISSONANCE project which spans June to October 1991. Alius Aliud is a vernacular idiom taken from the Latin language, meaning that whatever one says, there is always someone else who has a different opinion on the matter.

Alius Aliud is conceived as an exhibition of women artists whose works reveal a concern for the feminine aesthetic. Since the early seventies, the identification of a feminine aesthetic as a shared theme in the works of women artists throughout history, has been fraught with accusations of essentialism. The problematic of the essentialist debate and the aesthetics of the feminine together present issues of such difficulty as to defy even the most intrepid of feminist theorists to address."
