| Description |
An exhibition from New Caledonia of works by Kanak artists curated by Roger Boulay. In 1995 the New Caledonia Museum exhibited 'Portraits Kanak: Paroles Kanak' also curated by Boulay. The portraits are c. 1910-1912 studio photos of Kanak people taken by ehtnographer Fritz Sarasin. The 'paroles' are the responses of present day Kankas to the photos and photographer. During Cyclone Beti, half the exhibition was damaged. The damaged artworks were reworked by Kanak artists, laying new meaning over the original works. |
