From a life in the shadows
as a relic of 1970s feminism, the M word, misogyny, has burst back onto centre stage thanks to Australia’s first female Prime Minister Julia Gillard. Whether used to mean the hatred of women, or simply entrenched sexism, misogyny has been dragged out for critical examination. However you see the debate in Australia, the situation for women elsewhere is much more difficult. Where women are excluded from public life and education, and denied civil, let alone equal rights, misogyny is an enduring presence. How can we see it off for good for women everywhere? |
