Further Information In 1873 Williamson purchased a brief afterpiece called "The German Recruit" from an Irish writer called Sam Smith for $100. He then commissioned playwright Clay Greene to expand it to a three act play for $150. The script was called "Struck Oil". Williamson shaped and crafted it as a vehicle for himself and his wife Maggie Moore to tour.
