Join Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, Markus Stenz, and the Melbourne Symphony on an exploration of music inspired by the New World.
Celebrating the 100th anniversary of his birth, this program includes one of Duke Ellington's rarely heard works introducing the big band sounds into the orchestra. Premiered in 1951, Harlem is Ellington's most impressive extended orchestral composition. As Miles Davis of this symphonist among jazzmen 'All the musicians should get together one day and get down on their knees and thank Duke'.
