| Notes | This theatre was built on the site of the United Free Church in 1879 and subsequently owned by theatre promoter J Fuller & Sons who converted it for vaudeville shows. In 1911 they demolished the building by then known as His Majesty's and built the theatre designed by Australian theatre designer Henry E White. It was used for live shows and as a cinema and in 1942 renamed St James. The building operated as a cinema until 1987. Following a public campaign the theatre was acquired by Wellington City Council in 1993 and saved from demolition. | |
