Abstract/Description |
This thesis offers a critical examination and analysis of a rehearsal process and performance by the Australian theatre collective the Sydney Front (1986-1993). Don Juan, the Sydney front's fifth major performance production, premiered at the Performance Space in Sydney in April 1991. A modified version of the original show toured nationally and internationally (to Northern European countries and Hong Kong) in 1992. The Sydney front's postmodern re-making of the legend of Don Juan affords an opportunity to investigate the practice of poaching in the rehearsal process and in performance. In this thesis the politics of poaching is explored in and through the process of devising a parody, an ironic reinterpretation and reinvention, of a popular legend. |
