Set in a mental hospital, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is an exuberant, boisterous and devastatingly honest portrayal of the boundaries between sanity and madness.
Nurse Ratchet, who equates sanity with correct behaviour, rules her ward with a strict and unbending routine, unopposed by her patients who remain controlled by mind numbing drugs and the threat of electric shock therapy. Her regime is disrupted by the arrival of McMurphy, a manic free spirit who resolves to dismantle any system, simply by living as he pleases.
