Description |
"Vocally, visually, theatrically and orchestrally, the Western Australian Opera Company's production of Pagliacci is one of the most dramatically satisfying I have encountered. Stuart Skelton is inspired as Canio, the clown who suspects Nedda of infidelity. Even at the height of jealousy-fuelled, almost palpable rage and despair, he produced a stream of finely phrased, mellow vocal tone. And James Clayton as Tonio, spurned by Nedda and thirsting for revenge, looked for all the world like some loathsome spider as he tells Canio of Nedda's philandering. Her fear of Canio and her love for Silvio were unambiguous." |
