Like many young women, Jen has her nose stuck between the pages of Pride and Prejudice. Her fondness for Jane Austen quickly becomes an obsession, however, as she wishes to turn away from the realities of her life in favour of taking tea with Mr Darcy.
I Want to be in a Jane Austen Novel is the work of Brisbane writer Joanna Butler. She wrote and directed the play in 2006 for Brisbane's Harvest Rain Theatre Company, where it was met with great acclaim. The ABC Bell Awards named her Best Playwright and the Delarte Awards sent the Favourite Playwright and Favourite Play honours her way. |
