Description Based on the story of Damon Runyon, the inimitable American chronicler of the ways of never-never New York inhabited by good-hearted and weirdly named gus and dolls. Born in Manhatten, Kansas, he served in the Spanish-American war when 14, and first came to New York in 1911 as a sports columnit for the America. After serving as a war correspondent during World War One, he returned to newspapers as a columnist, concentrating on sports and comment, and also turned his hand to writing short stories based on the people of the streets of 20s New York.
