| Description |
Peranakan culture, born of the marriage between Chinese and Malay ways of life is unique to this part of the world. As reflected in the Peranakan play, this is a society dominated by the matriarch, and the Bibik (Lady, often played by a man), unabashedly holds centre stage as the play wends its way through the joys and sorrows to which she is subjected. The Gunong Sayang's Festival production is the story of two families who come together when young Betty and Albert, both with the same surname, meet and fall in love. The shocking denouement reveals hitherto hidden secrets in the families' past. |
