| Description |
The story opens in a small town art gallery where the mayor is about to officially open an exhibition of paintings by local artist Sebastian Finney. Mike Rhodes, an engineer with thew town planning department, has come to see the art show, but finds his attention riveted instead on the assistant director of the gallery, Molly Harris. She is equally attracted to him. The art show is disrupted when the mayor announces that a motor-way will soon be built through the gallery site and the park. he makes it clear that progress justifies this sacrifice. After he leaves, Molly, Sebastian and friends begin cursing the designer of the motor-way, unaware that Mike is the culprit…. |

Commissioned by the New Zealand Federation of Operatic Societies Inc, with the assistance of the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council. It is a full length musical comedy of 2 and a half hours duration, with a cast of 60 (including 12 children) and has been written for amateur production in New Zealand. (Programme note). With chorus of adults and children, and two pianists.
