Description The Bald Soprano is inspired by Ionesco's adventures in teaching himself English through a language phrasebook. He was stupefied by the book's examples, in which people would introduce themselves several times, inform each other of the days of the week and that the ceiling was up and the floor was down. Ionesco came to the conclusion that there is a futility of language in expressing anything beyond banal observations.
