Description In ' 'When London Sleeps' the colouring, mainly dark, is laid on with much vigour and daring, for the author does not hesitate to place one of his scenes in a fashionable house of ill-fame, and half the women in the action of the story are supposed to be of bad character, and make this very clear to the audience. The alleged justification for this sickeningly realistic pourtrayal of vice is that the public cordially support plays of the sort.
