Description WOMAN AT POINT ZERO was adapted from the novel by the celebrated Egyptian writer Nawal el Saadawi.

A psychiatrist interested in studying female prisoners enters Cairo's notorious Qanatir prison. She hears of a woman (Firdaus) on ?death row? who has refused all attempts to persuade her to appeal her sentence.
Who was Firdaus? Neglected by her father, raped by her uncle, abused by every man she came in contact with, she somehow rose to become the most sought after courtesan in Cairo. It was said that she had the power cause a war or bring down a government. Yet at the height of her powers she she stabbed a man to death and was sentenced to hang.

The set consisted of a 3x3m cube of black scrim mounted on a meter high plinth. The performer was only visible when lit from the inside. Video images relating to the text were projected onto the front of the box/prison. A radio microphone was used for the performer's vocals enabling voice and sound components of the show to be seamlessly mixed.
