Description Tension between stolid Presbyterian working virtue and the opposing ideal of non-commitment, of play, perhaps even of art, represented by Jacko, the freewhelling London Jew, with his philosophy of the moment…[Mason's theme:] that we are to some extent birds in the wilderness… flightless, looking enviously at the birds who can fly, but finally committed to our own patch of earth. However, the play fails to get off the ground for a number of reasons.
