| Description |
Moliere chose hs victims among universal types that abound in any age. So there is nothing anachronistic about his pedantic women, his conceited poetasters, his domineering wife, his hen-pecked husband. And the 20th centruy set with clothes from the Paris equivalent of Carnaby Street helped to bring home how much the 17th century remains relevant today….Her, obviously, was a cranky, gadget-happy household dabbling indiscriminately in all the arts and sciences, ready victims for the first charlatan to come along. He duly turns up in the person of Trissotin, the 'bel esprit', as vain as he is fake, and he basks in the adulation of the blue-stocking ladies. |
