Examines the lives of eight young soldiers going off to battle and in so doing explores aspects of war that are relevant to all. …The play presents this aspect from an Irish perspective where the Battle of the Somme and the almost mythical Battle of the Boyne (when the Protestant William III defeated Catholic James II) along with the Easter Uprising of 1916 are seen as crucial points in the defining of contemporary divided Ireland. |
