| Description |
The action places mellowing elder statesman Caesar in the Egyptian court during a power struggle between the young Cleopatra and her even younger brother Ptolemy XIII. This gives scope for Shaw to explore timeless themes such as war, revenge, imperialism and passion: and to raise a satirical eyebrow at the penchant for overblown, flowery stage spectaculars in the early 20th century. |
